Meditating

Méditer

As a Fine Arts student, I want to “weave” a space rather than represent it. And it isn’t the same thing. So, I look for a way of drawing without intervening on a material that’s already been given, such as paper or cardboard sheets. I’m interested in creating a space by weaving it with threads, that function both as graphic elements as well as internal organisation of the material.

In this context, the line first creates structure, then acquires visibility thanks to the screen. It is this complementarity between two modes of existence, the “thread” and the “line”, one that is reminiscent of the weaving tradition and the other of drawing, that I like to conjugate.

Thereby, by multiplying experiences with materials, I come to create screens of black and colourful thread, playing on the sliding of the thread and the line that leads our eye and creates structure. These are reductionist ideas of the basic elements of drawing that I explore with the concept of spatiality. Metaphorically speaking, the thought can process its meditation along the thread ramifications.
