Urban pregrinations

In this series of drawings, I combine stickers collages, typography and watercolour, empirically blending several materials and pictorial techniques. As they collide, the white of the paper sheet acts as a developing bath for pictures, and allows me to be reactive to the movements of the elements themselves. Of course, the choice of the materials isn't unbiased. Coloured stickers are visual stereotypes that manifest human activity. To me, it's a question of creating a great visual overload that resembles the tumult of the city... and creating, by drawing, means of exhilirating intervention.

Drawing, to me, is born from the possibility of setting in motion some leitmotifs of contemporary life. Itemizing them out of the blue produces a continuation: information, communication, globalisation, densification, concentration, urbanisation. Hence we understand that the drawing had other projects than theorising notions taken from economic and politic vocabulary.

However, given the ambiance, it establishes a restricting way of life that favours all kinds of transgression. The drawing's wager is to take sufficient distance from reality to allow turbulence between the materials (stickers, adhesives, ink, oil, watercolour) that generate their own complexity.

As they say in the movies, any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental. Drawing, just as an organism that crushes and regurgitates all pitfalls, finds in itself its own breath. At least, such is the intention.
